Latest MLCAD Project: Cockpit

Description

I'm a major fan of the old Lego Space series and its sub-themes. I can still remember spending my childhood cannibalizing any Lego set I could get a'hold of, and cobbling their pieces into my own starships and science fiction vehicles. My most favorite part of the line was that many of the sets featured an interchangeable gimmick, where you could put the cockpit of a Blacktron set onto the body of a M-Tron set, thereby creating an entirely new model.

In the spirit of those childhood days, I created this. It's the cockpit to some (as of yet un-built) dreadnought. I drew inspiration primarily from the Aquashark submersible from the "6190 Shark's Crystal Cave" set. I tried to be as detailed as I possibly could, featuring a built in ladder and gun sights, but the size of the project just didn't allow for a lot of add-ons. Though you can't see it from this anger, there was one feature that demanded to be added if I was going to stick with my nostalgia: a dual pin 1X2 brick, and a duel grommet 1x2 brick. Situated in the back of the model, it will act as the primary anchor to the main body of the ship. That is if and when it is ever finished...

Btw, for the curious, those are my Test Guys sitting behind the "wheels." They're a brave bunch of workers, taking on the task of climbing into all my models, and testing them for flaws. They also help in the building process, and make sure that they are Minifig accessible. They are dedicated to their work, so much so that they are rare (if ever) seen outside the Workshop 'cause they're so busy with their duties. I try getting them to take a break, or offer them vacation time, but for some reason they won't take it...
